Received: 15 Jan 2025Revised: 28 Mar 2025Accepted: 31 May 2025Published: 05 Jun 2026
Abstract
River nomadic populations in Bangladesh constitute one of the most socially marginalized groups globally. This cross-sectional quantitative study (n=412) examined migration impacts on mental health using PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5, and MSPSS across Chandpur, Bhola, and Shariatpur. Prevalence: 58.7% depression, 51.2% anxiety, 34.9% probable PTSD. Frequency of displacement (OR=3.72), involuntary migration, loss of livelihood, and low social support were significant predictors. Findings underscore urgent need for culturally adapted, community-based mental health interventions.
